Draft Order is in!

Article written by Lefty

It is an exciting time in the Ultimate Ironbound Showdown, as our fantasy football league is called. On Saturday we pulled the names from a hat and established our draft order. This year also marks the first year of our keeper league. From this point forward, we will be able to hold on to draft picks (under specific rules) from year to year. And now, without further ado, here is the order we will be drafting in (after the break!):

     1) Sodomy is my Forte
     2) Mighty Maximos
     3) Lefty
     4) RGIII Easy as 0 n 3
     5) JessLovesMe
     6) Challenger Explosion
     7) Gordo
     8) Rexy's Sexy Cleats
     9) HingleMcCrigleberry
     10) Ziggy
     11) Touchdown There
     12) Heisenfag

The names appearing above (save for the 3 authors of this blog) are all from last year and will be updated as the season goes on and we blog more about our dominance over these lesser managers (trash talking is a big part of this league).

Our current lineup includes the following positions/rules:
1 QB (4 points per TD, -1 for int, -1 for fumble)
2 WR (0.5 ppr, 6 points per TD, 1 point per 10 yards, -1 for fumble)
2 RB (1 point per 10 rushing yards)
1 TE (Same as WR)
1 Flex (WR/TE/RB)
K (0-39 yards for 3 points, 40-49 for 4, 50+ for 5, extra point for 1)
DST (Sack is 1 point; int, fumble recovery, safety and 4th down stop are 2 points; TD is 6; blocked kick is only 1 point; points allowed are as follows: 0 points allowed is 10, 1-6 is 4, 14-20 is 1, 21+ is 0; 3 and out forced is 0.5 points)
6 Bench Spots (up for vote to lower bench spots. I will update if this changes)

We changed defensive scoring a bit in order to placate some of the people in the league who threw tantrums whenever they saw negative points on the board. With this scoring, all DST's will have some favorable match-ups that make them worth playing throughout the season. That also means that defenses are less of a priority during the draft itself as more defenses will be viable as last minute substitutions.

Our keeper rules so far are as follow:

  • You can keep any player that ends the season on your team and was drafted - no free agency players may be kept - regardless of the manager that drafted the player. Example: If I draft Payton Manning in the 5th and trade him away during the season, the manager that finishes the season with Payton Manning will have the option to keep him the following season.
  • You keep players for a draft position 2 spots higher than where they were drafted the previous year. In the previous example, Payton Manning would be a keeper for a 3rd round draft pick the following season.
  • 2 keepers allowed per manager.
  • If the player was drafted in the first two rounds and you want to keep him, you lose 2 draft picks. A first rounder would cost a first and second round pick the next year. A second rounder would cost a first and third round pick the next year.
  • No player may be kept for more than 2 consecutive years between all managers. In the above example, Payton Manning was drafted in the 5th. He can be kept twice. He can be kept the year after he was drafted for a 3rd round pick (2 higher than the 5th he was drafted in) and once again the following year for a 1st round pick (2 higher than the 3rd rounder spent on him the previous year). After that, he can no longer be kept and is added back to the pool of draft-able players (this is regardless of which manager drafted him initially and which managers actually kept him).

I believe that about covers everything that makes up our league. Managers, draft order, scoring, and keeper rules. Our draft date is set for Sunday, August 24th. The excitement is palpable!
