Best Ball League - Monday Update (Week 3)

Article Written by Gordo

This week certainly has been disappointing for fantasy football. Injuries and off the field issues have continued to plague every format, every league, and every team. Just look at all the goose eggs that came from some of the best players in the league, of course some for obvious reasons:

  1. Adrian Peterson RB - 0.0 pts - Indefinite Suspension
  2. Jordan Reed TE - 0.0 pts - Injury
  3. Robert Griffin III QB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  4. Ben Tate RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  5. Frank Gore RB - 1.0 pts
  6. Ray Rice RB - 0.0 pts - Indefinite Suspension, Free Agent
  7. Arian Foster RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  8. LeSean McCoy RB - 2.0 pts
  9. Ryan Mathews RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  10. Knowshon Moreno RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  11. Carolina D/ST - (-1.0) pts
  12. Montee Ball RB - 2.0 pts
  13. Eddie Lacy RB - 1.5 pts
  14. Keenan Allen WR - 2.0 pts
  15. Roddy White WR - 0.0 pts - Injury
  16. Larry Fitzgerald WR - 2.5 pts
  17. Dennis Pitta TE - 2.5 pts - Injured During Game
  18. Jamaal Charles RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  19. Maurice Jones-Drew RB - 0.0 pts - Injury
  20. Doug Martin RB - 0.0 pts - injury
This doesn't even mention the guys who should be breaking double digits every game, but failed to, like Demaryius Thomas who only reached 6.0 pts because of a 2pt conversion. I hope the trend doesn't continue tonight when the Jets face the Bears. There are some important names competing tonight that could make the difference for this weeks standings and possibly the overall standings.

  1. Team Gordo - 161.0
    1. Jace Amaro TE, needs to beat 10.5 pts (in flex), 8.0 pts (in TE spot)
    2. Robbie Gould PK, needs to beat 11.0 pts
  2. Dan's Team - 154.0
    1. (Final Score)
  3. Mike's Team - 152.0
    1. (Final Score)
  4. Lefty - 148.0
    1. Chris Johnson RB, needs to beat 7.0 pts (in flex), 20.0 pts (in RB spot)
  5. Stonecutters - 139.5
    1. (Final Score)
  6. Itchy_Hungry - 138.0
    1. (Final Score)
  7. Colin2410 - 115.0
    1. Martellus Bennett TE, needs to beat 8.0 pts (in flex), 0.0 pts (in TE spot)
  8. Jeff's Team - 114.0
    1. Eric Decker WR, needs to beat 4.5 pts (in flex), 5.0 pts (in WR spot)
    2. Alshon Jeffery WR, needs to beat 4.5 pts (in flex), 5.0 pts (in WR spot)
    3. Nick Folk PK, needs to beat 7.0 pts
  9. Sarcastaball - 92.0
    1. Jay Cutler QB, needs to beat 0.0 pts
    2. Jets D/ST, needs to beat 16.5 pts
  10. Team Juice - 87.5
    1. Matt Forte RB, needs to beat 6.5 pts (in flex), 3.0 pts (in RB spot)
    2. Chris Ivory RB, needs to beat 6.5 pts (in flex), 3.0 pts (in RB spot)
    3. Brandon Marshall WR, needs to beat 6.5 pts (in flex), 7.5 pts (in WR spot)
    4. Chicago D/ST, needs to beat 5.5 pts
After only three weeks this has been by far the lowest scoring and I expect this trend to continue as we go into the first of many bye weeks. Now for some positives, I'd like to welcome Mike's Team and Stonecutters to the upper half of the weekly standings, and Dan's team is still sitting high above us all just barely missing 1st place with no one left to play tonight. Team Gordo and Lefty are staying competitive though as they aren't far behind Dan's Team in the league standings. Matter of fact Lefty could pass him if Chris Johnson surpasses 13 pts tonight. Team Juice could move up the standings as high as 7th.

I must say that drafting for a best ball (draft only) league is a very different breed of animal. From what I can surmise so far, you really need to make sure you draft a good balance of consistency and Boom/Bust to keep your weekly totals from varying too greatly. You want to make sure you balance out your bye weeks and injury prone only option picks; if you drafted DeMarco Murray don't also draft Ryan Mathews and Arian Foster. Also, no matter what league format you're in, injuries, suspensions, and duds will always plague every season in some capacity. All you can do is put in your best effort on draft day and enjoy the ride.
